Fragile time-critical courier in Braintree

Tasito moves fragile and time-critical consignments across Braintree, off Springwood Industrial Estate on Springwood Drive and around Springwood Court, into and out of Freeport Village, and from the town centre and the smaller units spread across the town. Manufacturing and light industrial output, instruments and electronic assemblies, finished panels and glazed work for retail fit-out, prototypes and single parts that have already been made once.

What the service changes in Braintree is the road the item takes. The A120 runs west from here to Stansted and the M11 and east to the A12 at Marks Tey, so a delicate consignment with an air freight cut-off behind it gets there without going near the M25. Braintree is about twenty-six miles from us, up the A130 to the A12 and across, or straight up the A131, and bookings run until 4pm.

The A120, and the cut-off at the far end

For most of the Essex towns we serve, reaching Stansted means the M25 to junction 27 and then the M11, which puts the job at the mercy of the least reliable junction between us and anywhere north. From Braintree the A120 goes west and the M25 never comes into it at all.

On a fragile consignment that is worth more than the mileage saved. A run that does not sit in a queue is a run where the driver has time in hand at the point the item is handed over, and where a freight cut-off at the agent's desk can be planned backwards from with margin rather than hoped at.

Give us the cut-off time, the handling agent and the reference rather than a delivery time, and we build the day round it. Galleys Corner is the junction that slows the A120 locally and the A12 northbound at Witham is the equivalent on the other route, and we pick between them on the day.

Springwood and Freeport Village

Springwood is the main industrial site here, with estate road access, yards and forklift loading, and it is comfortable for any vehicle we run. For a delicate collection that means the van gets alongside the door and the carry is a few paces rather than a walk across a car park.

Freeport Village works to different rules. A retail village runs service yard access with set delivery windows rather than open loading, so give us the window at booking and we build the run to arrive inside it. Early works better than late, before trading picks up and the yard fills.

The town centre and the smaller units elsewhere in Braintree are kerbside addresses, and for those we match the vehicle to the stopping position rather than to the item alone.

How the consignment is handled

One vehicle, your consignment, nothing beside it, and the same hands across both ends. On a job aimed at a cut-off that also means the person carrying it knows exactly what time is at stake.

Wrapping and restraint before the doors shut. Fit-out glazing and finished panels go in standing and braced with the edges covered, those being strong across the face and weak along a line nobody can inspect once it is loaded. Assemblies and instruments are tied down to the point where they cannot travel inside the body at all. A tolerance attached to a consignment is worth a sentence at booking, since it alters the restraint rather than the driving.

Packing and crating are not trades we practise. The driver will flag it while the piece is still on your floor if the wrapping will not make the journey, rather than once it is strapped down and moving. An item wanting a case built round it is identified when the booking is taken, because a missing case found at an agent's desk has been found far too late.

Once that signature is given at the agreed point, we are finished. Installing it, unpacking it and commissioning it sit with the people who do that work, and the van does not stay behind to assist.

What we send and what fits

Small is usually right. A short wheelbase at 450kg with a 2.1m load space suits instruments, boxed assemblies and single items, and a medium at 800kg takes two standard pallets or three Euro.

A piece that is long rather than heavy wants a long wheelbase at 3.3m, three standard pallets or four Euro, or an extra-long at 4.2m, four standard or five Euro. Six of either ride a Luton at 1,000kg in a 4.2m by 2.0m by 2.1m space, curtain-side for the forklifts at Springwood and box-bodied with a tail lift for a retail yard that has no dock. Anything that will not go through a van door travels on the flat bed, 2.7m at 800kg.

The fleet page sets out every class, and UK pallet sizes explained covers the footprints. The fleet is FORS accredited and the renewal is done for 2026.

Where Braintree work goes

Stansted west on the A120 without touching the M25. Witham and Chelmsford south on the A12. Colchester east. London down the A12 and the A13.

Braintree is in Essex and carries no charges at this end. Where the delivery leg runs into London we set out which charges apply before we go.

Other services we run in Braintree

Same-day courier where the goods are robust and only the timing is pressing. Two-man delivery for retail fit-out and anything that needs two people to carry it into a unit. Multi-drop along the A120 and A12 corridors where several addresses sit on one planned sequence. Next-day courier where the item is delicate and the deadline is tomorrow morning.

The fragile time-critical courier service page sets out the handling agreement, including how a run is planned back from an air freight cut-off.

Braintree questions

The agreement made before the van moves. Same-day is already one vehicle with no depot transfer. On a fragile job we also fix how the item is secured, who meets the driver and whose signature closes it.

No to both. We move the item as presented, and a case that has to exist first is identified at booking rather than at an agent's desk.

The A120 runs west from here to Stansted and the M11 without going near the M25. That keeps the run out of the worst junction on the route, which on a delicate consignment means the driver has time in hand at the handover.

Backwards from the cut-off with margin built in. Give us the time, the handling agent and the reference rather than a delivery slot.

About twenty-six miles, up the A130 and A12 or straight up the A131. Call us and we will tell you what is free and give you a window we believe. Galleys Corner is the local pinch point.

Yes, through the service yard and inside the window the village gives you. Pass us the window at booking, because the yard's hours matter more to the job than our cut-off does.

Which face it is, and the dimensions. It travels upright and supported with the edges padded, and knowing the finished side decides where the straps sit.

Yes. Braintree sits between the A120 and the A12, so a route taking in either adds relatively little mileage compared with separate bookings.
