Two-man delivery in Croydon

Tasito runs two-man delivery throughout Croydon and the business areas round it: Purley Way, Thornton Road, Beddington Lane and Prologis Park. A crew of two travels with the vehicle, so furniture, trade stock, equipment and fixtures are carried inside and positioned rather than left on a forecourt.

The Congestion Charge stops short of Croydon, so none of the central London charging that bites a few miles north lands on a delivery here. What does land is a long inbound run with two ways of making it, and on a crewed job the road and the receiving address both get settled before the vehicle loads. Bookings run until 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Where the industrial work is

Two corridors carry the trade and industrial space here, and they are the simple part of a Croydon job. The A23 at Purley Way is the main one, lined with trade counters, retail warehousing, vehicle businesses and distribution units, all of it reached through estate and retail park access instead of a kerb. Thornton Road Industrial Estate runs off it.

Over on the Mitcham side, Beddington Lane is the heavier end, where the industrial and logistics units take in the Prologis Park Beddington development. Those have docks, forklifts and booked slots, and with the gate reference in hand a crewed collection off them is as easy as this job gets.

East Croydon and the town centre offices are another matter. Loading there is restricted and a vehicle cannot sit waiting, so we arrive smaller and want a contact who can come down to meet the crew. At those addresses the second person stands in for the loading bay the building never had.

Two routes, two bills

Going round on the M25 means crossing at Dartford. On rates in force since 1 September 2025, a two-axle van is charged £4.20 as a one-off payment, or £3.60 held on a pre-pay account, and nothing at all between 22:00 and 06:00. Small money. The approach queue, though, is the single worst delay on our network.

The other way is a tunnel, Blackwall or Silvertown. Auto Pay puts a large van at £2.60 outside peak hours and £6.80 inside them, with every crossing counted on its own and charging running daily from 06:00 until 22:00. Southbound, peak falls on weekdays between 16:00 and 19:00, which happens to be when a Croydon delivery is usually in motion. South London still has to be crossed on the far side.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers Croydon, at £12.50 a day for a vehicle that does not comply. Compliant vehicles are what we send into London, and on the rare job where the right vehicle is not one, you hear about it before we leave. No Congestion Charge applies. What you get from us is the road, the figure and what each does to the window, and on a crewed job that is settled at booking rather than at four in the afternoon.

What the crew does, and what it does not

Unloaded, carried in, taken up to the floor and set where you want it. Packaging is cleared where that was agreed when you placed the job.

Assembly and installation are not included. Trade stock and furniture going into a town centre office arrives in its sections and stays that way until a fitter arrives, so send us their time if the two have to meet. Clearing out the old items is separate work with disposal attached to it.

The detail that governs a Croydon carry is the receiving end: the floor, the lift and its internal depth, the tightest doorway on the route in, and the longest item. At a Beddington Lane unit the gate reference and the slot go on the same list, because a crew held at a barrier is a crew not carrying.

What decides the timing

Collecting in Essex stays quick. It is the leg into Croydon that is long, taking in the region's worst crossings, and a crew of two is in the vehicle for all of it, so we choose the hour on purpose.

Mid-morning is the hour that works. It falls outside the 16:00 to 19:00 southbound tunnel peak, which costs the most to cross in and moves the slowest, and it avoids the Dartford approach at its worst going the other way. Tell us the deadline and you get a straight answer on reaching it. Where a crewed job will not make today, we put it on a booked morning slot instead.

What we send and what fits

A Luton carries six pallets of either footprint at 1,000kg. Step down and an extra-long wheelbase at 4.2m takes four standard or five Euro, a long wheelbase at 3.3m three standard or four Euro, a medium at 800kg two standard or three Euro, and a short wheelbase a single pallet in 2.1m of space at 450kg.

A trade delivery on Purley Way with no forklift wants the box Luton and its tail lift, after which the crew takes over. At the Beddington Lane units the curtain-side version loads from the flank. For East Croydon and the town centre we come in smaller again, since a Luton on a restricted street is a problem regardless of what is inside it. Whatever a doorway will not take goes on the flat bed, 2.7m and 800kg.

Every class is detailed on the fleet page, and UK pallet sizes explained puts the standard footprint next to the Euro one. FORS accreditation covers our whole fleet and was renewed for 2026, which is what the construction work around the town centre asks for.

Where Croydon work goes

Several south London drops on one run is the usual shape, because getting here is the long part and adding addresses once a crew has arrived costs comparatively little. Back out to Essex is the river again, in whichever direction the hour favours.

That return crossing is why we fix the delivery hour first and work the collection back from it.

Other services we run in Croydon

Same-day courier where one driver can handle the consignment. Next-day courier on a booked morning slot, which we will often recommend outright on this route. Multi-drop taking in several south London addresses. Planning, routing and sorting where the same movement repeats weekly.

The full two-man delivery service covers how the crew is booked with the vehicle, which is worth reading before a town centre delivery with no loading access is set against a peak-hour crossing.

Croydon questions

The previous day, where you can. The crew is allocated with the vehicle, and on a run this long the booking is what buys you a mid-morning arrival rather than a peak-hour one.

One of two ways: round on the M25 over the Dartford Crossing, or under the river at Blackwall or Silvertown and then across south London. A van pays £4.20 at Dartford and somewhere between £2.60 and £6.80 in a tunnel, depending on the hour and on Auto Pay. Queues cost more than either figure. You get the road and the number before we leave.

Purley Way or Beddington Lane. The first has its trade counters, retail warehousing and distribution units on estate and retail park access. The second is the heavier end, docks and forklifts and logistics operations. Either one is a comfortably easier delivery than the town centre.

At the larger logistics operations, yes, since most of them work to slots. A crew with no reference waits at the barrier. Supply the gate, the slot and the reference when you order and it is a non-issue.

The delivery address decides it. Tell us the item, the floor it is going to and how it gets in, and we will tell you which you need at booking.

No. Carried in and positioned where you want it. Assembly and installation are a separate trade, so tell us when your fitter is due if they have to follow the crew in.

Mid-morning, comfortably. That sits clear of the 16:00 to 19:00 southbound tunnel peak, the slowest and dearest window to cross in, and clear of the Dartford approach at its worst as well. Booking early buys you more on this route than on any other we run.

No. The central zone does not reach Croydon, so the charge never lands. ULEZ does land, £12.50 a day on a vehicle that does not comply, and the vehicles we send into London comply.
