Fragile time-critical courier in Wickford
Tasito moves fragile and time-critical consignments across Wickford, from Shotgate Industrial Estate on the eastern edge to the trade counters round the town centre, Wickford Business Park, and the smaller units out on the Runwell and Nevendon roads. Instruments and light manufacturing parts, fixings and fittings, finished panels, prototypes and single pieces with a deadline attached to them.
A dedicated vehicle, no depot, and nothing else in the load space. Five miles for us, by the A132 or in off the A130, which is the shortest leg anywhere on our network, and a booking taken by 4pm goes further here than at any other address because the collection leg costs so little time.
What five miles buys on this service
We quote a collection inside the hour across the county. Here the honest figure is nearer a quarter of an hour.
That time goes somewhere useful on a fragile job. The conversation about packaging, access and the signature can happen before the van leaves and still leave the afternoon whole. Short notice is realistic, subject to what is already out. And pairing a collection here with a delivery at Basildon, Rayleigh or Chelmsford makes one short run out of what would otherwise be two jobs.

Where we collect
Shotgate Industrial Estate, on the eastern edge, is the main industrial site, and the trade counters round the centre account for most of the rest, with Wickford Business Park and the units off the Runwell and Nevendon roads making up the remainder.
Trade and light industrial is the shape of it: plumbing and electrical stock, fittings, fixings, light manufacturing parts, and palletised goods running down to London or up towards Chelmsford. What reaches this service out of that is the single finished item, the instrument, the one-off piece with nothing behind it.

The level crossing, and how we route round it
A railway cuts the town in half and the crossing beside the station comes down often. When it does, the queue runs back through the centre in both directions, and five miles of A132 is worth nothing from third place in a line of forty.
Predicting it is not something we attempt. What we do instead is come in by a route that leaves the crossing out altogether, where your address sits on the far side of the line, which removes the variable rather than managing it. Over five miles that is a quarter of an hour against forty minutes.

How the handling is agreed
Blankets and straps on everything. The item is secured for its shape, and anything with a finished face travels with that face clear. Five miles gives us the time to load slowly and still be with you inside the window, and the carry at the far end is agreed before we set off.
We do not pack and we do not crate. The driver will say, at your premises and before loading, if the packaging is not going to do the job, and we would rather say it at collection than drive it. Where a purpose-made case is wanted first, you hear that at booking, and on a run this short there is usually time to sort it out the same day.
Our responsibility ends when a named person signs. Unpacking, fitting and commissioning are a separate trade, and five miles away there is normally scope to match our arrival to theirs the same afternoon.

What we send and what fits
A single item, or one pallet, goes in the short wheelbase: 450kg of payload, 2.1m of load length. A medium carries 800kg and holds two standard pallets or three Euro. Length comes with the long wheelbase at 3.3m, three standard or four Euro, and the extra-long at 4.2m, four or five, with a Luton holding six at 1,000kg.
Trade counters with a forklift in the yard take the curtain-side Luton, which opens along the flank; without one, the box version's tail lift does the lifting. A panel or a length that will not pass a van door travels on the flat bed, 2.7m and 800kg.
Every class is on the fleet page, footprints in UK pallet sizes explained, and FORS accreditation covers every van, renewed for 2026.

Where Wickford work goes
Down the A127 and the A13 to London. Up the A130 to Chelmsford, past the Rettendon turn we take anyway. Basildon, Rayleigh, Billericay and Southend-on-Sea are all a few miles off.

Other services we run in Wickford
Two-man delivery for a consignment going on to a site with no handling equipment. Same-day courier where the item is robust and the date is all that matters. Multi-drop for trade stock going out to a list of customers, at a fixed rate where the route recurs. Next-day courier where tomorrow does the job.
The fragile time-critical courier service page carries the handling agreement, short as the run is.

Wickford questions
Five miles, the shortest run we do, so about a quarter of an hour rather than the hour we quote across the county. What varies is the crossing rather than the distance.
The railway splits the town and the barrier by the station is down often, which queues the centre both ways. Where your address sits beyond the line we plan a way in that does not use it.
No, and neither is a service we offer. The driver gives you a view on the packaging at your own premises, before anything is loaded.
Often, and the five miles is what makes it realistic. It still turns on the vehicle you need, since a Luton or the refrigerated van wants more warning than a short wheelbase.
More use here than at any other address, because the collection leg takes so little of the afternoon. On a fragile booking we would still rather have an hour before the van moves than ten minutes.
Yes, and a good share of the work here is exactly that. A yard with a forklift gets the curtain-side Luton; without one the box Luton's tail lift covers it; a single item goes in the small van.
The person you name at booking, with a mobile number for them. On a one-off piece we hold on for that person rather than handing it to whoever is nearest the door.
Not precisely, and we will not pretend to. What we can do is not depend on it, by planning a way in that leaves the crossing out where your address allows.
