Two-man delivery in Greenwich

Tasito runs two-man delivery across Greenwich and Charlton, taking in the Charlton Riverside sites, Westminster Industrial Estate, Bugsby's Way and the estates on Anchor and Hope Lane, together with the peninsula and the town centre. A crew of two travels with the vehicle, so fixtures, equipment, furniture and event kit are carried inside and positioned rather than left at a kerb.

The borough splits cleanly for this service. Charlton is yards and forklifts, and a crewed collection there takes almost no time. Greenwich town centre and the peninsula have restricted loading, heavy footfall and venue procedures, and that is where two people are the only way the goods get in. Bookings run until 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Charlton, where the industry is

Industrial space in this borough lies along the riverside at Charlton rather than in Greenwich proper. The main concentration is Anchor and Hope Lane, which holds the VIP Trading Estate and the VIP Industrial Estate, with yards and open storage beside the units. The remainder of Charlton Riverside is covered by Westminster Industrial Estate and Bugsby's Way.

All of those are estate addresses, with yard access and room to turn, so a Luton gets in, forklift loading is normal and six pallets at 1,000kg is realistic. Regeneration is under way along Charlton Riverside too, which puts construction activity next to the established units. FORS accreditation runs across our fleet and was renewed for 2026, and that is what gets a vehicle past a site gate round here.

Greenwich town and the peninsula

Hospitality, retail and services fill the town centre, with heavy footfall and loading restricted throughout. There is no lingering, so an early delivery is the one that works, and what we want is somebody ready to receive rather than a yard to reverse into. On a crewed job that is precisely the point: no dock, no forklift, frequently a cellar or an upper floor, and the second person covering all of it.

Venue and event procedures govern the peninsula, with accredited windows and loading gates on event days. Pass us the window and the gate and the job is built round them, because a crew held outside an event gate is a crew not carrying.

What the crew does, and what it does not

Out of the vehicle, in through the door, and set down where you want it, on the floor or in the cellar. Packaging goes back out with the crew if the booking covered it.

Assembly and installation are outside the job. Bar fittings, furniture and event kit arrive in their sections and stay that way until a fitter is on site, so send us their time if the two have to meet inside a booked window. Taking the old fixtures out is a separate job with disposal attached to it.

The detail that decides a Greenwich carry is the receiving end: the floor or the cellar, the lift and its internal depth, the tightest doorway between the vehicle and the final position, and the longest item in the load.

The crossing, in detail

Getting to or from the north bank means the Blackwall tunnel or the Silvertown one, each of them charged, and charged again on the way back. Collect in Essex, deliver in Greenwich and return, and that is two chargeable crossings with two people in the vehicle for both of them.

Charging on either tunnel runs 06:00 to 22:00, daily, Christmas Day excepted. On Auto Pay a large van pays £2.60 outside peak hours and £6.80 inside them. Off Auto Pay the rate is £6.80 whenever it is chargeable, each way, and between 22:00 and 06:00 nothing is payable. Southbound peak falls weekdays from 16:00 to 19:00, which is the awkward part, since an afternoon delivery runs south inside the dearest window and the slowest-moving one. Put the same job at ten in the morning and it arrives sooner.

Tunnels do close, and when one does the choices are the Woolwich Ferry or the long route round the M25 by way of Dartford, which swaps the toll for £4.20 of Dart Charge on a two-axle van. Quick is neither of them, and you get a call with a revised time rather than a vehicle parked in it. The Ultra Low Emission Zone takes in Greenwich, at £12.50 a day for a vehicle that does not comply. Compliant vehicles are what we send into London, and on the rare job where the right vehicle is not one, you hear before we leave. No Congestion Charge applies.

What we send and what fits

A Luton holds six pallets of either footprint at 1,000kg in a 4.2m by 2.0m by 2.1m space. Below it, an extra-long wheelbase at 4.2m takes four standard or five Euro, and a long wheelbase at 3.3m three standard or four Euro. For the Charlton estates the curtain-side Luton suits best, loading from the flank by forklift.

At a hospitality address with no forklift it is the box version and its tail lift, after which the crew takes the load inside. Into the town centre we arrive smaller, a short wheelbase at 450kg or a medium at 800kg, since those stop nearer the door and the carry is the work. Open-storage and construction lengths go on the flat bed, 2.7m at 800kg.

Class detail lives on the fleet page, while UK pallet sizes explained deals with standard against Euro.

Where Greenwich work goes

On the far side of the tunnel sits Canary Wharf, and the two pair naturally, though a toll attaches to only one of them. North a short way is City of London. Essex is back through the tunnel and up the A13.

Because the return crossing is charged as well, we fix the delivery hour against the receiving address first and work the collection back from it.

Other services we run in Greenwich

Same-day courier where one driver and a signature covers the consignment. Next-day courier on a morning slot, which is both cheaper and faster through the tunnel. Multi-drop taking in Charlton and the peninsula, with the crossing paid once instead of per job. Planning, routing and sorting where the same movement repeats weekly.

The full two-man delivery service covers how the crew is booked with the vehicle, which is worth settling before a town centre hospitality delivery is set against a peak-hour crossing.

Greenwich questions

The previous day, where you can. The crew is allocated with the vehicle, and booking ahead is what gets you a mid-morning crossing rather than a peak-hour one.

Charlton. Yard access and room to turn is what Anchor and Hope Lane, Bugsby's Way and the Westminster Industrial Estate all offer, which gets a Luton in and makes six pallets realistic. Serving it is quicker than anything nearer the town centre.

Each crossing carries its own charge, and a Greenwich delivery out of Essex means a run south followed by a run back. On Auto Pay that is £2.60 apiece outside peak and £6.80 apiece inside it, so the hour moves the total considerably.

Yes, and it is the clearest case for one. Loading is restricted, the footfall is heavy and there is no yard, so we come in smaller, work early and need somebody ready to let the crew in.

The delivery address decides it. Tell us the item, the floor or the cellar it is going to and how it gets in, and we will tell you which you need at booking.

No. Carried in and positioned where you want it. Installation and fitting are a separate trade, so send us your fitter's time if they have to work inside the same window.

The venue's accredited windows and loading gates govern it. Give us the window and the gate at booking and we build the job around them rather than arriving against them.

That leaves the Woolwich Ferry or the long way round the M25 by Dartford, which puts £4.20 of Dart Charge on a two-axle van. Quick is neither. You get a call with the revised time and figure rather than silence.
